Medieval Food; What did they eat in the Middle Ages?
The food in the Middle Ages changed depending on who had conquered England. Both upper and lower class ate three meals a day, however, peasants ate less than three. Lower classes ate from wooden dishes and spoons, while the upper class' food preparation was extravagant due to the Crusader's influence (before the Crusades, the preparation of food was messy and salty). Water was unclean and unsafe to drink, so other drinks such as alcohol was a necessity. The poor drank ale or cider, while the rich drank wine. The Black Death decreased the population of Europe drastically, so much more food was available, and even the poor could afford meat.
