How were women treated in the Middle Ages?
Men dominated women in the Middle Ages and they were restricted from making their own decisions. Women were beaten if they were disobedient, and disobedience was considered against the religion.
Peasant women were expected to do many things in one day - even help with a man's chores.
Peasant women were responsible for cooking/preserving meals, mending clothes, taking care of the children, looking after animals and work in the fields.
As said in the law, women could not divorce their husbands (even if husbands were abusive towards them), they could not own any property of any kind, they could not marry without the consent of their parents, and they could not own a business without special permission.
